I often use an “evolution” method in my acrylics paintings. It allows me to express myself and evolve the painting as I go and there’s more creative decision-making involved, which I believe ultimately results in a more interesting piece of artwork. This method particularly lends itself to depicting the species in their own habitat, be that trees, woods, rivers, lakes or seashore. In this Eagle Owl painting I started by covering a primed board in acrylics in quite an abstract way using a limited colour palette. In keeping with the freedom of the painting style, I used whatever tools felt right: sponge, knife, brushes and sometimes even fingers. There's really no need to limit yourself to brushes. You
