This painting of Long-Tailed Tits was really inspired by the pine plantation as much as the birds. The flock flew in, flitting about in the trees, and I noticed immediately the shapes of the little round bodies and long tails mimicking the pine cones and spiky leaves. The striking colouring of the Long-Tailed Tits stood out beautifully against the dark green pine leaves but also blended with the russet of the dead leaves. Long-Tails always seem so excited by everything - you can't help but smile when you see them. All
in all, the scene screamed 'paint me', and it's become one of my most
