These owls are from my wildlife of Ancient Egypt project. I'm illustrating a research project investigating the various wildlife species depicted in Ancient Egypt. We had a hectic six-week tour in 2008 visiting museums and historic sites across the country. I was often inside the pyramids and tombs, sometimes sketching by torchlight.

These are all the hieroglyphs of owls that I observed, but from different geographies and timespans in Ancient Egypt. The basic hieroglyph doesn't change - there are slight variations but the pose is always the same.
