This acrylics painting of an Avocet is the result of a day at WWT Slimbridge's 'Wader Shore', a netted aviary they created in the reserve in 2011. It's perfect for wildlife artists and photographers because you can get very close to the birds, which is often difficult in the field. Avocet numbers in the UK have increased as a result of successful conservation and protection projects by organisations such as the WWT and RSPB. Avocets are one of the UK's most popular birds and it's easy to see why. Read more about Wader Shore on my blog.
